Place of memory in mange to people who have died of COVID-19

The Borough of Sud-Ouest is proud to have supported the initiative and to have accompanied the Seniors' committee of Concertation Ville-Émard/Côte-St-Paul in carrying out the project.

 

During this ceremony, elected officials Anne-Marie Sigouin, borough councilor for the Saint-Paul–Émard–Saint-Henri-Ouest district, Alain Vaillancourt, city councilor for the Saint-Paul–Émard–Saint-HenriOuest district and Craig Sauvé, borough councilor for the Saint-Henri-Est–Petite-Bourgogne–Pointe-Saint-Charles–Griffintown district, was present to honor the victims, but also the helping staff and the families who lost loved ones.

 

“I am moved to be with you today. The realization of this project is taking shape on the eve of International Seniors Day and we are happy to take part in the initiative created by the Seniors Committee of the Concertation Ville-Émard/Côte-St-Paul organization. The inauguration of this commemorative place allows us to honor those who died of COVID-19 at the Yvon-Brunet residence, but also in our entire community," said Councilor Craig Sauvé, who acted as acting mayor. on this occasion.

 

On the place of commemoration, located near Newman Avenue, there is a stele. This work can represent both the memory of missing persons, but also hope and life. Vincent Daoust, a neighborhood artist, created the benches that were painted by people with intellectual disabilities, that is, artists who frequent the Arche-Montréal organization.

 

It should be noted that during this ceremony, Jean-Claude Duclos, member of the senior committee of Concertation Ville-Émard/Côte-St-Paul, Assia Kada, general coordinator of Concertation Ville-Émard/Côte-St-Paul, Sébastien Larivée, coordinator of the long-term care center (CHSLD) Yvon-Brunet and Jacques Bourdeau, resident and member of the CHSLD residents' committee, took the floor to explain their role in the realization of this project. Éric Roger, local poet, read the work he wrote for this occasion.
